LD Davis Industries celebrates 100 years in business. Discover the history, growth, and legacy of a family-owned adhesive manufacturing company since 1926.

A Letter from Tripp Davis: The History

On May 19, 2026, LD Davis Industries, Inc. will celebrate an incredible milestone: 100 years in business. As the third-generation president, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on what this moment truly means. And more than anything, it’s about gratitude.

LD Davis Industries, a family-owned adhesive manufacturing company, was founded in 1926 by my namesake, Louis D. Davis Sr. He could never have imagined that 100 years later, the small business he started in North Philadelphia would still be here, growing, adapting, and thriving. That kind of longevity doesn’t happen by accident.

It happens because of people.

Over the decades, we’ve been supported by dedicated employees, trusted vendors, and most importantly, our customers. Customers are the reason we are still here in 2026.

How LD Davis Adapted in the Adhesive Manufacturing Industry

Our story began with animal/hide glue used to make a stenciling product. But in the late 1930s, that industry was disrupted by the introduction of rubberized alternatives. Rather than fade away, LD Davis adapted. We pivoted to manufacturing protein/gelatin adhesives for the Graphic Arts industry, supporting the production of two-piece rigid boxes and case-bound books.

In those early years, our reach extended primarily along the East Coast, from Maine to Georgia. But as the industry evolved and trucking replaced railroads as the dominant mode of transportation, new opportunities opened. By 1955, LD Davis was doing business in 36 states.

Supporting Customers Through Innovation

The decades that followed brought significant change. Over the past 50 years, our industry has seen tremendous consolidation. What was once made up of hundreds of “mom-and-pop” box makers and bookbinders began to shift in the early 1980s. Faster, more advanced, and more expensive automated equipment transformed the landscape. Businesses faced a choice: invest and evolve or be left behind.

Many did not have the resources or the next generation willing to continue. Hundreds of small businesses were acquired by larger competitors or simply closed their doors.

But those who remained grew stronger. They invested in technology, increased efficiency, and expanded their capabilities. And through it all, LD Davis stood alongside these customers, providing not only adhesives but also the technical support needed to keep pace with faster equipment and increasingly complex substrates.

Looking Ahead to the Next 100 Years

Our success has always been tied to yours.

Without the innovation, resilience, and forward-thinking approach of our customers and our own commitment to evolving with you, LD Davis would not be here today.

And as we look ahead, we remain just as committed to supporting the next generation of machines, materials, and people.

To the thousands of customers we’ve had the privilege of serving over the past 100 years: thank you.

Your trust, your partnership, and your loyalty have made this journey possible.

There is no LD Davis without you.

Here’s to the next 100 years of innovation, partnership and growth.

Sincerely,

Tripp Davis
