In this exclusive interview, David Gomez pulls back the curtain on who he is and gives solid advice to anyone looking to join the LD Davis team.
A Passion for Adhesives
HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START IN THE GLUE INDUSTRY?
My journey into adhesives began at a previous research company. One of our projects focused on developing a formula for roads — adding a solution to asphalt that would make it fire-resistant. This not only helped prevent roads from being destroyed by intense fires caused by fuel or explosions but also strengthened the pavement and reduced drying times. That early experience sparked my interest in glue and materials research.
BEFORE WORKING AT LD DAVIS, WHAT WAS THE MOST UNUSUAL OR INTERESTING JOB YOU’VE EVER HAD?
I had the opportunity to work on some fascinating projects involving fire retardants, coal additives, and alternative fuels. For example, my team developed a completely green, mold-resistant, termite-resistant, and fire-proof solution mainly for lumber/construction, but could have been mixed into many different materials (plastics, foams, liners, PVC). We also created a coal additive that could increase efficiency in power plants by roughly 35% while reducing NOx and SOx emissions by about 30%. Our work in alternative fuels was equally exciting — we engineered a material that, when burned, released only water vapor while delivering the same energy output as liquid fuels.

Every day brings something new and different. I enjoy the variety of challenges and opportunities; it keeps the work interesting and makes me look forward to what’s next. There is a good work culture and work/life balance.
A Passion for Learning and Exploring
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE/DESTINATION TO TRAVEL TO?
That’s tough to narrow down. Locally, I love New York City — it has the best food in the world and endless things to do. Internationally, my favorite destination is Santiago, Spain.

Getting together with friends, hiking in the mountains, and board gaming. I’ve recently gotten into 3D printing as a new hobby.
