When it comes to rigid box manufacturing equipment, one name consistently rises to the top: Emmeci. Known throughout the packaging industry for reliability, precision, and innovation, Emmeci has become the gold standard for manufacturers producing premium rigid boxes. From luxury retail packaging to cosmetics, confectionery, electronics, and specialty gift boxes, Emmeci machines are trusted around the world to deliver consistent quality and dependable performance.

At LD Davis, we understand that investing in rigid box equipment is a significant decision. The right machine can improve production efficiency, reduce waste, and help manufacturers meet increasing customer demands while maintaining exceptional product quality.

To provide some first-hand insight, we sat down with Glenn Maile, an industry veteran with more than 45 years of experience working with rigid box machinery. Since joining LD Davis in 2019, Glenn has helped expand our equipment capabilities by providing technical support, assisting customers with machine evaluations, and helping manufacturers source reliable pre-owned equipment.

We asked Glenn to share his perspective on the evolution of rigid box machinery, what makes Emmeci different from other manufacturers, and what companies should know before investing in a rigid box production line.

How did you get your start in the rigid box world?

Glenn:

"I took a job as a Field Service Engineer with FMC Corporation at the end of 1976. At the time, FMC was the leading manufacturer of rigid box-making machines. I've been in the equipment business ever since."

With nearly five decades of experience, Glenn has witnessed the evolution of rigid box manufacturing firsthand. From primarily mechanical equipment to today's sophisticated automated production lines, he has worked with generations of machinery and helped countless manufacturers improve their operations.

His extensive field experience gives customers practical advice based on years of troubleshooting, installations, maintenance, and production optimization.

What makes Emmeci machines stand out in the packaging industry?

Glenn:

"The first Emmeci rigid box making machine entered the U.S. market in July of 1998. It quickly established itself as a high-quality machine known for predictable production, minimal waste, and unmatched technical support.

Emmeci built its reputation on the MC-92 and MC-94 mechanical machines, and these proven models are still being manufactured today."

For manufacturers, consistency is everything. Every rigid box must meet demanding quality standards, especially in luxury packaging applications where appearance matters just as much as structural integrity.

Emmeci earned its reputation by producing machines capable of maintaining precise tolerances over long production runs. Their durable mechanical design minimizes downtime while delivering repeatable results shift after shift. That combination of reliability and performance has made Emmeci one of the most recognized names in rigid box manufacturing worldwide.

How do Emmeci rigid box machines improve production efficiency?

Glenn:

"It all starts with a spectacular design built on time-proven mechanical principles. Emmeci incorporated PLC technology to monitor machine functions and give operators simple tools to control variables that had been common challenges in our industry for years."

Efficiency isn't simply about running faster; it's about running smarter.

Emmeci combines proven mechanical engineering with modern programmable logic controller (PLC) technology to help operators maintain consistent production while reducing setup time and minimizing waste. Built-in monitoring systems provide better control over machine functions, making adjustments easier and helping operators identify potential issues before they affect production.

The result is improved uptime, more predictable output, and greater confidence on the production floor.

What should a company consider before investing in an Emmeci rigid box machine?

Glenn:

"Companies should evaluate their current production requirements, future growth plans, and the level of technical support available to them. Emmeci machines are built for long-term reliability and performance, making them an investment that can deliver value for many years when matched to the right production environment."

Choosing the right machine isn't only about today's production volume.

Manufacturers should also consider:

    • Current and projected production demands
    • Box sizes and styles they intend to produce
    • Available floor space
    • Operator experience and training requirements
    • Service and technical support availability
    • Budget for both equipment and ongoing maintenance

Many companies find that investing in a quality machine with a long service life provides a lower total cost of ownership than replacing lower-quality equipment more frequently.

Working with an experienced equipment partner can help ensure the machine selected aligns with both immediate production goals and long-term business growth.

What's the number one thing operators and maintenance personnel should understand about Emmeci rigid box lines?

Glenn:

"Like all Emmeci lines, they are metric machines. Having a basic understanding of the metric system is helpful for both operators and maintenance personnel when working with the equipment."

While it may sound simple, understanding the metric system helps operators perform accurate machine adjustments, order replacement parts correctly, and complete preventative maintenance more efficiently.

Proper training is one of the most valuable investments a manufacturer can make. Operators who understand both the equipment and its operating principles are often able to reduce downtime, improve consistency, and extend the overall life of the machine.

Does LD Davis offer pre-owned Emmeci equipment?

Glenn:

"Yes. Our pre-owned inventory changes regularly, but we frequently have quality Emmeci equipment available. Currently, we have seven pre-owned Emmeci lines in inventory, including two MC-94-SB lines ready for immediate shipment and five MC-92-SB lines in various stages of completion."

For many manufacturers, pre-owned equipment provides an excellent opportunity to expand production while managing capital costs.

Every company's production needs are different, and a well-maintained pre-owned machine can often deliver years of dependable service. At LD Davis, we work closely with customers to understand their applications and recommend equipment that fits their production requirements and budget.

Because inventory changes frequently, it's always worth reaching out to learn what machines are currently available.
