Tossing around the idea of joining a trade organization? Here are some great reasons for you and your company to take the plunge.
Yes, you do have to pay an annual fee (most times) to belong to a trade organization. Here's why joining one, and spending a little extra to do it, is definitely worth your while.
Chances are your customers are scattered all over the U.S., or even the world. How often do you have the opportunity to see them all in one place? It's probably pretty rare.
We recommend joining a trade organization that your customers belong to. This way, when there are events, meetings or group trips to attend you'll be able to see your customers while you attend. It's a great way to stay in touch with them, face-to-face. Not only can you chat with them about business, but also get to know them on a more personal level.
Think about how you're getting industry news now. Is it through LinkedIn? Industry magazines? A friend?
While all of these can be great resources, if you really want to be on top of the latest and greatest coming out of your industry, a trade organization is a great way to stay "in the know".
As a member you'll likely gain access to industry trade shows, and quarterly or annual meetings where you'll spend time with your peers learning about new technology and equipment being introduced within your industry in the next year(s).
In addition, you'll have your finger on the pulse regarding industry regulations, and growth. All of this will help you come back to your team with fresh data, and possibly an idea or two on new strategies for your own business.
Trade organization events may be a great chance for you to push yourself out of your comfort zone. It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, so it's great to shake things up by taking a trip and getting out of the office.
These events will not only offer you the chance to network with others in the industry, but you could make a few new friends. Once you do, you'll look forward to future events even more!
