Shortly before L.D. Davis's 25th anniversary in 1951, the company had expanded to serve a larger part of the country and had developed its animal glue for specifications in the rigid box and bookbinding industries.

Animal Glue around the World

By 1965, L.D. Davis was selling glue internationally, and the company continued to cement its place in the rigid box industry when Louis Davis Jr. developed a custom animal glue called Pink Special, which could be sold to the rigid box companies at a lower cost.

Louis Davis Jr. expanded international revenue during the 1970's by partnering with a distributor to open a team undertaking in Belgium. In later years the company would also expand to serve the Asian adhesive market.

50 Years of Animal Glue

L.D. Davis celebrated their 50-year anniversary of the business in 1976, and was moving fast to expand further to another manufacturing plant. The next year, the original president of the company, Louis Davis Sr., passed away in 1977. His son, Louis Davis Jr. takes over his duties as president.

In 1980, our current manufacturing plant in Monroe, North Carolina was built. Over the past three decades it has been expanded a number of times to increase our animal glue manufacturing capability.

L.D. Davis Today

After our 75th anniversary celebration 2001, we have continued to grow as America's largest protein adhesive compounder.

In more recent years, we have come to agreements with H.B. Fuller and Ashland Chemical to distribute their products, such as hot melt and fugitive glue; adhesives that we do not manufacture. Animal glue is our specialty and if one of our 100+ varieties doesn’t fit your needs, we are always ready to manufacture a custom animal glue to find an adhesive solution for your needs.
