Mystery Uncovered: Color Variations in Protein Glue

Written by Maria Ceschan | Jan 2, 2018 1:25:40 PM

If you have used protein glue (animal glue, hide glue) chances are you have wondered: Why is my glue a different color than my last order? In this post, we will dive into this ‘mystery’.

I'll start off by confirming that color variations in glue are perfectly normal, so no need to worry!

The reason you'll notice a color variation in glue batches is

because natural raw materials (like animal glue, and gelatin) are used in the manufacturing process.  When natural products are used, there is always a chance that there will be slight color variances.

The technical grade gelatin we use can vary in color from a light straw to dark amber.  This variation is random, and will change based on how the gelatin was processed prior to arriving in our manufacturing plant.

We also utilize pharmaceutical grade gelatin raw materials which tend to be lighter in color.  This is because it is processed differently, and is more "pure".  This lighter color gelatin will cause the final glue product to have a lighter color.

A shade variation will not have an impact on the performance of your protein glue.

All of our glue products go through a 16 step quality control testing process. Before leaving our manufacturing facility, they are tested for optimal performance.

All protein glues manufactured by LD Davis are eco-friendly, non-toxic, repulpable, biodegradable, and recyclable.
