The Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure starts tomorrow in Philadelphia. Our Social Media Manager, the second LD Davis Industries employee to walk in the 3-Day, begins her 60-mile trek across the Philadelphia area to help find a way to end breast cancer. With support from LD Davis Industries, North America’s premier book binding adhesive manufacturer and one of the largest hide glue suppliers, she has been training and fundraising to meet the $2,300 fundraising goal to walk in the 3-Day. In fact, she has surpassed the $2,300 minimum. For the past two years, our CFO, Michael Free, walked in the 3-Day with support from the book binding adhesive company. This support has extended to this year’s LD Davis Industries 3-Day walker.

Jeff Palmiter, an LD Davis animal glue veteran salesman, gave me a few minutes of his time to learn a little more about the company and about his history with LD Davis, North America’s premier animal glue manufacturer. Here is his story….

Shortly before L.D. Davis's 25th anniversary in 1951, the company had expanded to serve a larger part of the country and had developed its animal glue for specifications in the rigid box and bookbinding industries.

Animal glue in the Great Depression

In its early years, LD Davis Industries thrived during the Great Depression. Beginning as a stenciling product company, Louis D. Davis Sr. grew the business during the 1930's by focusing more on manufacturing his own animal glue, a major component in his current stenciling product.

The company did well enough to move to its third location in 1936, to our original
animal glue manufacturing plant in Bristol, PA.
